Square Candies That Look Round (Chapt 23)

25 Nov

Brrrr! It sure was cold on November 25 when we met up for Chapter 23.  It was so cold some of our friends couldn’t make it and we only had 7 kids this week. Because of the cold we had snacks in the kitchen.

And if you were done with your snack you could look at a book until everyone was ready for Tara to read. They got so into reading it was hard to put the books away!

After we finished the shortest chapter in the book, we talked about how it should be called “Square Candies That Look AROUND”! Not round Around! And how short the chapter was. Then we returned to the kitchen. Today we would be making our own lollipops! We would be taking circular candies and making them a bit less round.

Step one, pick out four Life Savers

Step 2: Remove plastic and arrange on a tray

Step three:

Write your name near your Life Saver arrangement. But not too close, as the Life savers might spread out when they melt.

Step 4: While they are melting a bit in the oven, write your name on a Popsicle stick. Then go into the living room. Tara had to sneak back in the kitchen to add the sticks to the melted creations.

Meanwhile, the kids went back to the living room and given materials to make some squares that look round.  There was:

  • Cardstock: pre-folded and cut so it could be folded into a cube
  • smelly markers
  • assorted tapes (scotch tape, a range of colored masking tapes)
  • googly eyes
  • glue sticks and regular glue
  • stickers that looked like eyes
  • and later we found some puff-balls to add on too

The kids were left to create what they chose.

This is what they came up with:

Just when we had finished up, the lollipops were ready!

We got our things together, all the while licking our pops. It was time to go.
